History of the Boerboel
Written by Anemari Pretorius Someone once told me that they had read in some dictionary or other that the boel part of the name Boerboel means a lot of dog. I was unfortunately unable to trace this particular definition, but if I were to create my own dictionary I am almost positive that this would be my description as well, only more so. According to the 1987 edition of the Verklarende Handwoordeboek van die Afrikaanse taal the meaning of the word Boerboel is given as a farm dog of uncertain origin. This is most certainly no longer true, as I am sure you will acknowledge once you have read through this chapter. According to information…

I am a boerboel
Written by Jenny Wells I am a substantial dog driven by love and loyalty to my nearest and dearest. I am an impressive figure of strength with my stature, musculature, bearing and demeanour. I can be the most reliable and loving family companion and a thoroughly determined force of nature if they are threatened. I can be a clown and I have a sense of humour. I am smart, make sure you are smarter! I will make decisions if you don’t! I was created in a school of hard knocks over generations on the farms in South Africa. I am tough, hardy, adaptable and can turn my paw to…

AKC – The Boerboel
About the Boerboel There’s a no-frills, no-nonsense quality to this sleek-coated avenger, who might stand as high as 27 inches at the shoulder and weigh as much as you do. Training and socialization should begin early, before a pup becomes a dominant adult. This is a trainable, versatile breed, eager to spend…

The Soul of A Boerboel
Here is one of the most important Boerboel photographs that I have ever taken. I have a ton of impressive photos on my phone of our Boerboels… some of the photos are even stunning and make people go ‘wow!’ Some even have impressive trophies and awards…and we are grateful for all of them. But this photo here is one of the most important of all. Because this photo captures the Soul of the Boerboel. This photo shows Egoli Betty out with our daughter at Egoli Ranch. When Opal is out exploring the land, Betty absolutely will not leave her side…ever. When I came up over the hill on my tractor…
